Do you need an air quality assessment?
Air Quality
in Manchester
Greater Manchester Combined Authority has declared an AQMA covering the whole of Greater Manchester for annual mean Nitrogen Dioxide. Manchester City Council’s Latest Air Quality Annual Status Report (ASR) shows that road traffic emissions are the main source of air pollution in the City.
A number of projects and schemes have been undertaken to supplement the work of the Air Quality Action Plan and improve Air Quality in Greater Manchester.
National planning policy means that new developments should not create or be adversely affected by unacceptable levels of air pollution. Manchester City Council have therefore produced specific Air Quality and Planning Guidance to provide help and advice in relation to air quality in a planning context to encourage good practice and mitigation of impacts.
When do you need an Air Quality Assessment in Manchester
An air quality assessment in Manchester will be required where there is a need to inform the decision-making with regard to development. It is reasonable to expect that an assessment will be required where there is a risk of a significant air quality effect, either from a new development causing an air quality impact or creating exposure to high concentrations of pollutants for new residents.
If you have a development with more than 10 residential units or more than 1,000 metres square of floor space, then an air quality assessment is a requirement for planning applications.

Haze Environmental follow the relevant technical guidance for all our assessments, therefore you can be confident our assessments are robust and accurate. In particular, we use the IAQM guidance on Planning for Air Quality:
