Air Quality Assessment for Planning

An air quality assessment is a study or evaluation of the air quality in a specific location. It typically involves measuring the concentrations of various pollutants in the air and comparing them to established standards or guidelines.

The goal of an air quality assessment is to determine if the air quality in a particular area is safe for people to breathe, and if not, to identify the sources of pollution and recommend ways to improve air quality.

Haze Environmental follow the relevant technical guidance for all our assessments, therefore you can be confident our assessments are robust and accurate. In particular, we use the IAQM guidance on Planning for Air Quality:

An air quality assessment will be required where there is a need to inform the decision-making with regard to development. It is reasonable to expect that an assessment will be required where there is a risk of a significant air quality effect, either from a new development causing an air quality impact or creating exposure to high concentrations of pollutants for new residents.

We work with developers, planners and transport consultants looking for an air quality assessment to support a planning application. If you have a development with more than 10 residential units or more than 1,000 metres square of floor space, then an air quality assessment is a requirement for planning applications.
